ENGLISH DATES DAYS MONTHS SEASONS TASK CARDS
ESL EFL ENGLISH DATES DAYS MONTHS SEASONS TASK CARDS are perfect for advanced beginner English to intermediate English students, and really do help to create a lively language learning environment. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their knowledge of this essential English language in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. They have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping students familiarize themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling in English in general, and certainly in English dates, days, months and seasons in particular.
The questions range in complexity and challenge, and some call upon prior knowledge too, helping students make links and build bridges in their learning. There may be some words students are not familiar with - these questions give them the opportunity to learn and apply new language too. There is a significant amount of practice and consolidation of language and grammar, such as word order, punctuation, nuances of spoken versus written language, tense, and ordinal / cardinal numbers. This maximizes the learning potential of the activity, which I take further when we look at multiple choice questions seeking to identify errors - being able to identify errors, and explain what is inaccurate, is a really important language learning skill, and really helps students progress in their learning.
The question card template enables students to apply their knowledge of language creatively and practically too - my students really enjoy creating questions for each other.

German separable verbs can be quite a challenging concept for English-speaking German learners, and focused practice really helps them consolidate their understanding of how to conjugate them accurately, particularly the location of the separable prefix at the end of the clause , and the various contexts in which the prefix is not separated, such as with subordinating conjunctions and modal verbs.
The questions are all in German, and are differentiated, ranging in complexity and challenge. There may be some vocabulary that students are not familiar with: these questions give them the opportunity to learn and apply new language too. Other grammatical concepts are addressed in the questions too, such as gender agreement direct and indirect objects, personal pronouns and word order in German.

ideal for advanced beginner English into intermediate English students. Word searches are a fabulous way of encouraging learners to engage with the written word, practising and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This set features ten differentiated word searches, focusing on Numbers 0-100 in English, with each consecutive grid increasing in challenge. The searches offer a really useful learning opportunity - enabling learners to engage with the target vocabulary, but also aligning with cross-curricular learning - working on reading, writing, spelling, numeracy and language skills in generaL.
Learners are able to identify which direction words are located in within the grid by referring to the arrow key. As they move through the grids, their language skills are challenged in a range of ways - from straightforward vocabulary searching, to gap-fill, scrambled letters and sentence questions, which feature mathematical language in English and more complex linguistic structures.
Hyphens are really important in English numbers, and the grids feature these quite clearly, in order to ensure that learners can practise this aspect of language.
There are two formats to choose from - the search grids and answer keys as separate worksheets, and also a file with both grids and answer keys together, so that you can print each grid and key double-sided, according to which suits your classroom needs better.

Sopas de letras are a fabulous way of encouraging students to engage with the written word in Spanish, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This freebie set features two differentiated word searches, with each consecutive grid increasing in challenge. They focus on a range of countries where Spanish is an official language, with reference to a number of countries where a significant number of the population speak Spanish as their first or second language. The word searches really do help students develop their knowledge and awareness of the Spanish-speaking world, and just how widely Spanish is spoken around the globe.
The word searches work well across the school year, not only when you’re focusing on Spanish-speaking countries. GCSE ITALIAN -IRE VERBS PERFECT TENSE CONJUGATION PRACTICE (passasto prossimo) great for practice and consolidation in a range of contexts such as independent work either in class time or at home, holiday refresher work, or individual activities for cover lessons. There are 25 high-frequency regular and irregular -IRE verbs in the perfect tense (passato prossimo). The workbook focuses on the correct conjugation of verbs, rather than usage - students find that when they can immediately recall and produce the correct conjugation of a given verb, particularly out of context, they are really getting to grips with conjugation.
The structure of the resource is as follows:
Two alphabetical verb reference lists: Italian-English and Italian-English
Three conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugation questions, so 150 conjugation questions in total
Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation.

I use a range of strategies to promote speaking, and idioms, proverbs and fun expressions which sound quite strange when translated literally are really popular - for example, we have regular competitions to see who can get the most idioms or expressions into dialogues and conversations. This works really well for students of all stages and ages. The posters show the literal translation, which generally sounds very odd, such as this particular idiom Revenons à nos moutons ! - Let’s return to our sheep! and the correct corresponding translation. We also discuss other possible translations into English, which helps them understand the concept of translation, and that there are potentially many correct ways of expressing meaning accurately. The posters also lend the learning environment a real French ambiance, promoting the everyday use of French.

GERMAN VERBS I HAVE WHO HAS
KS3 GERMAN GCSE VERBS ACTIVITIES German Common Verbs Ich habe… Wer hat… ? This is a whole-group lively & communicative language learning game, ideal for practising, reinforcing and consolidating 99 high-frequency German verbs. The game has a multi-skill focus: listening, speaking and reading, with an important bonus focus on social interaction and participation. It’s perfect for pronunciation practice too. Active learning is a really successful way of developing both language skills and general confidence.
The verbs are in the infinitive form, and the aim of the game is to create a German verb chain as quickly as possible. There are two games, each with a slightly different challenge:
Challenge 1: verbs are in alphabetical order, with the question and answer format: Ich habe… Wer hat… ?
Challenge 2: verbs are in random order, with the question and answer format: Hast du… Ja/Nein, ich habe…
In both challenges, the English translation of the verb appears immediately below the German verbs, which maximizes opportunity for really embedding vocab. The game works just as well if the cards are placed on a longish table, or other flat surface. I created the game for my KS3 German learners, who are ready to move into KS4 German, but I’ve also played the game with my more advanced learners, who really enjoy ’going back to the start’ and having the opportunity to get up, walk about and talk - the games definitely provide some essential variety in learning activities.
I’d definitely recommend you laminate the cards, despite the extra prep and expense. They’re far more learner-friendly, and they will last for absolutely years. Distribute the cards, one or two per student, depending on how many students you have in your group. I frequently use a timer when we play. Playing in teams, using either a single challenge, or with both challenges, is really popular - students find the competitive element really motivating and are genuinely keen to see which team can finish first, and whether they can beat their own time record. I always do some high-speed verb quiz oral warm-up and warm-down activities to really get the most out of the game, for example Wie sagt man SEIN auf Deutsch? or Richtig oder falsch - SEIN heißt TO BE auf Englisch?
There is an alphabetical German-English verb list, featuring all the verbs used in the game. This is useful as a longer-term reference resource too.

German Numbers 0-100 Challenge Cards really do help to create a lively language learning environment. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their knowledge of German numbers in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. The translation questions are a great way of introducing beginner German learners to the concept of translation too. The cards are useful not only when you’re focusing on German Numbers 0-100, but also as an all-year-round starter, plenary and general ‘pick-me-up’ activity, as the goal is not simply to learn how to count in German, but also to enjoy working with German, and to feel confident about doing so.
All questions are in German, and range in complexity and challenge, both in terms of language and number skills. There are visual prompts such as maths symbols to ensure all learners can engage with the questions, and this helps them to begin to infer meaning from context, and to decode clues and prompts to foster understanding. Challenge cards are an ideal language learning activity, providing multi-skill language learning opportunities. These sets are ideal for a range of French language classrooms from KS2 French / Primary French to KS3 French, and at KS4 French, students preparing for GCSE French as practice and revision.
This kind of activity really does help to create a lively language learning environment. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their French language skills in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher.
The questions have a multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping students familiarise themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling in French in general, and on the focus language, for example, conjugating French RE verbs in the present tense in particular.
I use task not only when we’re focusing on the focus language and grammar, but also for sub lessons, as an all-year-round starter, plenary and general ‘pick-me-up’ activity. The goal is not simply to learn how French works, and how patterns can be identified and applied, it’s also about enjoying working with French, and to feel confident about doing so.
The questions are differentiated, and range in complexity and challenge, with some calling specifically upon prior and new knowledge too, helping students make links and build bridges in their learning. There may be some vocabulary that students are not familiar with - these questions give them the opportunity to learn and apply new language too. Other grammatical concepts are addressed in the questions too, such as gender agreement, direct and indirect objects, personal pronouns and question formats in French.
The question card template available in some sets enables students to apply their knowledge practically and creatively, which is an essential element to successful language learning.
To get the most from the questions, I frequently look at the multiple-choice questions as a whole-group, identifying not only why there is a single correct response, but what the errors are in the other choices. Identifying errors, and explaining precisely why something is inaccurate or incorrect, helps students to think about language a little more laterally, and ensures that they are thinking concepts through, rather than simply relying on learned responses.

The cards are useful not only when you’re focusing on this particular target vocabulary group, but also as an all-year-round starter, plenary and general ‘pick-me-up’ activity, as the goal is not simply to learn how these words and phrases in French, but also to enjoy working with French, and to feel confident about doing so.
The questions are entirely in French, with some translation questions both from French into English, and***English into French***. It’s important to help students understand as soon as possible that translation does not mean simply exchanging word for word, and that languages do work in different ways to express the same things.
This free set comprises the following non-editable files:
12 differentiated question cards, 4 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper - this size allows for longer and more complex sentences or calculations in a font that is sufficiently large for students at this stage of their introduction to Italian to access the language easily and successfully, which is a really important motivator for learning. Laminating is definitely worth the prep time and extra expense, as the cards will last in great condition for absolutely years.

French target language display posters creating an instant introduction to 40 commonly-used expressions in your French classroom. The posters also give the learning environment a fabulous French look and feel, promoting French as a living language, featuring in the everyday life of your learners. They introduce learners to a range simple everyday language in French from the very beginning of their learning, and they are able to familiarize themselves with both the ‘look’ of French words, and how sounds are represented in the written form.
The language is simple and effective, suitable for absolute beginners. I use the posters to promote use of the target language in contexts that we meet frequently and regularly, such as Asseyez-vous ! Levez la main ! and Qui a fini ? There are some greetings, such as Bonne journée ! and Bonjour tout le monde !
It’s important to build routines in the languages classroom, using only the target language, and avoiding translating everything orally when we speak to learners. It’s easy to develop conversational routines too, starting with greetings, and asking how people are - I generally do this with talk time, encouraging learners to ask each other how they are for example.
The posters do show the English translation, as I’ve found that this facilitates learner understanding initially, and certainly helps them feel more confident in the very early stages. I explain that the words do not necessarily match correctly, for example Quel jour sommes-nous ? literally means What day are we? but translating correctly means recreating meaning in the second language: in English, we ask What is the date today? This is really useful knowledge for both current and future learning. I also move the posters around a little in our first lesson, and give learners sheets with certain expressions in English, and they walk around looking for the corresponding expression in French, writing it down on their sheet - I’ve included one of these in each set. I’ve found this to be a really successful way of getting learners to write and spell correctly in French, again from the very beginning of their learning. I definitely focus a lot on pronunciation, emphasizing that words often do not sound how they look - accurate pronunciation needs a lot of practice, and the written word can actually confuse learners unless we work on pronunciation and producing the accurate sounds of words, and look closely at linking spelling with sound.
